.500 Magnum! Yee-haw!

We rented a S&W Model 500 with a 4" barrel, and bought a box of 20 rounds of Hornady 350gr. The bill at the end of the session came out to around $120... yowch.

One day... one day, I'll have enough money to buy one of these (in 8-3/8"). One day.

Yes, one day you will. If you really want too. I have never shot one of those before. I shot a Ruger 480 and 50 AE fairly recently. In fact I shot an aquaintance 50 AE Desert Eagle and he also has an AR15 type Carbine that is chambered for 50 AE. That was a lot of fun shooting. Shot a 10 MM Glock and 10 MM EA Witness pistols recently too. I like the 10 MM. It is underated in my book. It is a little harder to control than 40 S&W but it is a lot of fun to shoot. It just feels........ powerful. I guess that sounds dumb but that is how it feels to me. I think I may buy one soon. I want a Glock and want to buy a 6 inch barrel to go in it. That is the way the one I shot the other day was set up and it shot good. Come to think of it, that Witness shot pretty good too. It was the polymer version. It is a bit less expensive than the Glock, I may decide to get that instead. I do like the Witness platform. It is basically a larger calibre CZ 75. The CZ 75 is a nice pistol as well. But I don't think it comes in 10 MM. I had one in 9MM in the past. Like a lot of other weapons I have owned, I sold it. Now, I wish I hadn't.

custom mini-mags

I just realized that I have five Minimags and ten Mags. Only one, an old blue Minimag, was a gift.

There's a lot more you can do to Mags than to Minimags, mostly because there's more room. Unfortunately, the biggest tool in my "workshop" (a.k.a. our backyard) is an abrasive chop saw from Harbor Freight, so I can't do any really nice machining like will does (not to mention the skill and experience required  ).

Welcome to the forums, kd!

I recently went and tried my hand at sporting clays. It is very very fun to try and shoot them. I went down to Talladega County to where some people shoot them. Now, what happened was, I got my ass kicked by a bunch of old men. They shoot all the time because they are all retired. Add to that the fact that they are all good shots and competitive shooters, and I am not, and you will have an idea of the butt kickin I took :banghead: :lolsign:

I'm not sure what the problem is at this point, although it looks like it's with my service provider. I can get to the control panels on both sites, but can't get to my stats, email, etc. I'll give it a little while longer and then I'll contact my provider.

I also had problems all day with FTP for the site, I have a feeling it's related to that. Regardless, I'm stuck with updates I can't load to FN. Oh, well.....

I have fired many blackpowder weapons before too. I once had an old, and I mean old, 60 calibre precussion rifle. I don't know when it was made or even where. It could have even been made locally but I doubt it. A gunsmith looked at and made an educated guess that it was at least 100 years old. This was in the early 80's so you can see it was a fairly old gun. That was a fun rifle to shoot. I never hunted with but I did loan it to friend who went Elk hunting with it. He said it dropped his Elk better than any rifle he had ever used. Even better than his 338 Winchester. Needless to say, but he now owns the rifle and I wish I had kept it :-)

Candles are not easy

My best friend is attending chef school (California Culinary Academy), and he was very excited to learn about beer brewing. I think he has a 5-gallon bucket of something fermenting behind his couch.[/quote]

Well, warn him that homeade beer is very fattening. For many years you could actually make better beer on your stove than you could buy at the store. At least here in Alabama. Now, California would have been a different story. People there have always had beer from everywhere. I started brewing because I had to go to Atlanta (about 100 miles away) to find anything more interesting than Whitbread Ale. That is not a snipe at Whitbread either. I like Whitbread Ale, I like the liqiud yeast too. Now you can't even find Whitbread around here but the selection is much better than when I learned to Brew. I started in about 1988 and stopped making it when I had to start taking meds for arthritis in 2004. Don't need to mix the meds with alcohol. It can make the stomache bleed. I saw an episode of Alton Brown on the food channel the other day and he was making a batch of beer that was very similar to the first batch I ever made. I learned from two books initially and then read a few more over the years. I highly recommend The Complete joy of homebrewing by Charlie Papazian and Brewing quality beers by Byron Burch. These are older books but the info is still great for beginners and I continued to refer to them the whole time I was brewing. Both books are still easy to find. Do what the instructions say and you will make great beer every time. Can't tell you much about making candles though. They are like any other hobby, you can get as involved as you want too. I know a guy that makes them and then carves them into beautiful shapes. I know a couple of sisters that make their own line of scented candles and sell them in their local store. I have bought a couple from all of them.
